#12 8-Step Process To Get Ahead In Your Career
Entrepreneurship is not for everyone, and that's okay...
Hey there!
Thank you for subscribing to my Newsletter. Feel free to send me an email at [email protected] with what you like or dislike about my Newsletter.
Look - Entrepreneurship or small business is not for everyone. And that’s okay.
I always tell people to find their happy number. If they are happy with a certain salary or certain time off (or time working), then maybe it’s best to do a 9-5 job rather than start their own thing. There’s no right and wrong answer to that.
I actually started my own business as a way to show my manager that I am capable for MORE than just the job I had at that time. That’s also the reason why I became a Licensed Customs Broker as well. And then while at it, I figured why not start my own thing and help others if I can?
Today, we’ll go through the 8 steps that will help you become more success than your peers.
8-Step Process To Get Ahead In Your Career.
Don’t shy from the harder tasks. When you join a new company and they already have people that do similar things to you, know that most likely those people have become very comfortable in their position and what they do. If they’ve been a while, they know how to avoid the hard stuff and how to work on the easy things. Been there, seen that. So, you’re job is to see what they avoid and pick it up.
Ask questions on how to do things. Do not be afraid to ask questions - bother your co-workers, bother your boss (in a good way), and ask questions. When you get a new job, that’s your chance to ask as many questions as possible. If you miss out on asking questions in the first few months, then it’ll be harder to ask questions later on unless it’s a new topic. So, get on it.
Master the hard (and) easy tasks. Remember, in step #1 I said to pick up the hard stuff? Master that.
Become more efficient at what you do. If you can’t figure it out yourself, then ask around on how to become more efficient at what you do. I remember, when I asked how I can become more efficient because I was at limitations, my boss pulled new reports and IT permissions that helped me finish my job faster!
Repeat steps #1-4. Repeat for 3-9 months, depending on your job.
Ask for a promotion —> If you get a “no”, then ask for a raise instead. The max you will hear is a “no”. If you never ask, that’s still a no anyways, so why not try for a yes. Even if you get a 2% raise or just a title change, that still shows progress on your resume.
Repeat #6 after few months. If #6 is a no, repeat after few months.
If #6 and #7 are not working, then find a new Company to work for. The last step, and usually the best step in terms of salary increase, is to change your company if you’re not happy with what you’re getting paid. It’s that simple.
I promise you, I’ve used the above 8 steps and gotten to where I am today. It WORKS. The amount of promotions and raises I’ve received in 5 years usually takes people 10-12 years to get.
If I can do it, so can you.
See you next week,
